Fire on board is normally one of the most serious incidents a boat owner can experience. We therefore allow us to remind you about installing smoke detectors in your boat.
In addition to have smoke detectors installed onboard, you should also have fire extinguishers close at hand.
Electrical installations require maintenance
To reduce the risk of fire onboard you must ensure that the electrical installations and equipment are properly installed and used as intended. Qualified control, inspection and maintenance should be carried out before the holiday starts.
Please also study our rules for connection and use of electric devices. Do not use “home-made” cables when you connect to the 230v power in Arendal Marina.
Remember! Electrical equipment and improper use of electrical products is the most common cause of fire in Norway.
Fire risk when fueling
Be aware the risk of fire when fueling and at fuel leaks!
Move a loose fuel tank onshore before filling and be careful not to overfill your onboard tank to avoid onboard fuel spilling.
Remember also:
- heated diesel that has been spilled may also cause dangerous fires onboard!
- vaporized fuel and diesel sinks down in your boat unless you have sufficient ventilation and one spark may cause the unwanted explosion!
Gas requires caution
The use and storage of gas has become very common in the leisure boats.
This requires special care!
Always make sure to check that the equipment is installed in such manner that it is not damaged or loosens. Also check pipes and fittings regularly to prevent leakage. Read the instructions before you use your new equipment and before replacing the gas tank.
When purchasing a used boat, please ensure that the installations and equipment are inspected by qualified personnel.
Fire Zones
In Arendal Marina we have established fire zones to prevent fires to spread between moored boats. You are under no circumstance allowed to moor in the fire zones.
